This workshop was part of a project to establish a local art school in Mardan. It took place over five days during which the focus of learning was drawing in situ and from life. Each day involved taking walking trips to sketch in different precincts, such as the bazaars of Mardan and outlying villages, farms, and to local historic sites such as the ruins of an ancient monastery called Takht Bhai.
This week-long workshop was conducted at the National College of Arts, Lahore, Pakistan in 2014. The focus was to explore the immediacy and life of situational drawing through observations of and encounters with ordinary people, with Masters students and their projects. Students took their materials into a number of contexts near to the college including parts of old Lahore, the Jinnah Gardens, and nearby streets and footpaths, some also exploring the scroll as an unfolding space for drawing.
