Kushi and Komal
Kushi and Komol is an illustrated project based on observations of children and life in Kahna Kacha Pakhiwas community, Lahore, Pakistan. Glikson developed the book using drawings made in situ and films observing the community. Other techniques involve found material, miniature painting, collage, sound, and textile art.
The project looks to produce a book in which the illustrations in addition to a set of films introduce characters and a story flow. One of the intentions of the book is to encourage literacy, deductive skills, and creative writing through facilitating children to engage with a cultural context and a story, with the language of images, and with the language of making.
The book includes the use of applied art by its example as a storytelling instrument. With lessons and exercises included, the book offers teachers a way of introducing children to ways of making images and particular techniques of drawing, painting, collage, and textile art.
